Our Mission

The Frances Perkins Center inspires current and future generations to understand and uphold the government’s role in providing social justice and economic security for all. Our work is guided by Frances Perkins’ effective leadership style and one woman’s power to change the world.

 

Our Vision

We are a nationally recognized cultural institution based at the Frances Perkins Homestead National Historic Landmark in Maine established to: 

  • Highlight Frances Perkins’ achievements, her body of work, her philosophy, and her policy contributions;
  • Articulate the relevancy of that work to American life today;
  • Convene scholars, leaders, and emerging leaders to deliberate solutions to the country’s social justice, economic security, and labor issues;
  • Connect contemporary policy issues to her legacy through relationships with the media, peer institutions, and policymakers;
  • Engage local communities and inspire future generations to consider civic engagement and public service as worthy and high callings;
  • Preserve, Interpret, and Share the Frances Perkins Homestead as the place that shaped her character.
