Our Mission

Our Mission

The Frances Perkins Center honors the legacy of Frances Perkins by sharing her commitment to the principle that government should provide all its people with the best possible life, and by preserving the place that shaped her character. The Center convenes leaders and future leaders in public policy, labor and related fields to generate creative solutions to today’s social and economic problems and teaches students of all ages about a remarkable woman whose work continues to improve the lives of ordinary Americans.

In carrying out our mission, we:

  1. Advance the principles and legacy of Frances Perkins whose work continues to improve the lives of ordinary Americans.
  2. Preserve and Protect the Frances Perkins Homestead National Historic Landmark as a place where future generations can learn about how a place can shape the character of a leader, and provide unique opportunities for understanding history.
  3. Inspire learning among students, scholars, and citizens of all ages, bringing the lessons of history to bear on contemporary economic and social issues.
  4. Engage civic leaders in nonpartisan dialogue about values shaping creative, lasting solutions to public issues.
