Frances Perkins to be inducted to the Maine Women’s Hall of fame

Frances Perkins is best known for her policy work at the national level, but her career and accomplishments continue to have a significant impact on Maine—especially the one quarter of Maine residents who receive Social Security (more than half of whom are women).

Serving as the first woman in a U.S. presidential cabinet, Perkins knowingly paved the way for other women in politics and continues to be an inspiration to women in public service.

The Business and Professional Women/Maine Futurama Foundation established the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame in 1990 to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to increasing opportunities for Maine women. Nominees are notable women whose achievements have made an enduring impact and improved the lives of women in Maine. Inductees are selected by an independent panel of judges.

Frances Perkins will be inducted alongside Alane O’Connor, DNP who is director of perinatal addiction medicine at Maine Medical Center and the medical advisor of the Maine Maternal Opioid Misuse (MaineMOM) Initiative.

Both women will be joining an illustrious group of inductees to the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame that includes authors, athletes, artists, activists, political and religious leaders, educators, doctors, lawyers, scientists, and administrators. Read more
