The Frances Perkins Homestead
The Frances Perkins Center will host the sixth annual
Garden Party at the Perkins Homestead in Newcastle
on Thursday, August 14, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Slated
to be honored at the party are Lindsey Davis and Chris-
tine Hastedt. Davis is the 2014 recipient of the Frances
Perkins Center’s Open Docr Award for her work as direC-
tor of Crisis Services at the Coalition for the Homeless
in New York City. Hastedt, director of public policy for
Maine-Equal Justice Partners, based in Augusta, will
receive the Steadfast Award for her work as an advocate
for Maine low-income and working families for over 30
Wine, refreshments, and hors d’oeuvres will be provid-
ed, and free transportation to the Perkins Homestead from
downtown Damariscotta-Newcastle will be supplied
by Country Coach Charters. The historic property was the
life-long haven of Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins, prin-
cipal architect of the New Deal, and the celebration is
designed to honor her and the accomplishments of those
now championing her causes, social justice and economic
