PERKINS HOMESTEAD TOURS
We continue our annual summer tours of the Newcastle Homestead of Frances
Perkins. Enjoy a day with us on guided tours of the 1837 Brick House and historic
district with its 57 acres of fields, gardens, and trails to the Damariscotta River.
The dates are: June 29, July 20 and September 7
“FRANCES PERKINS: MAINE’S
NEW DEAL PIONEER” EVENT
This event on August 12 at the
College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor,
will feature Nannerl Keohane,
Professor of Public
Affairs, Princeton University and
former president of Wellesley College
and Duke University; Kirstin Downey,
author of The Woman Behind the
New Deal; Tomlin Coggeshall,
grandson of Frances Perkins;
and Christopher Breiseth, Chair,
Frances Perkins Center.
SIXTH ANNUAL GARDEN PARTY AND
AWARDS CEREMONY
On August 14, the Frances Perkins Center will
host their Sixth Annual Garden Party and Awards
Ceremony at the Perkins Homestead in
Newcastle, Maine. This historic property was the
life-long haven of Frances Perkins, and the
celebration is designed to both honor her,
and the accomplishments of those
now championing her causes—economic
and social justice.
BETTA MACCARTHY EHRENFELD
PUBLIC POLICY FORUMS
Introducing the Betta MacCarthy Ehrenfeld Public
Policy Forums, programs identifying key policy areas
in the work of Frances Perkins and how her advocacy
would apply to contemporary economic and social
problems. This year’s event on July 17 will feature
a keynote speaker and focus on the areas of Perkins’
legacy that are threatened today.
